TANUKI and CERAMICS

zurück/back A trip took us this time to a city named Shigaraki. This city and its surroundings have been known for centuries for beautiful ceramic products. In the numerous shops there are plates, bowls, mugs, vases and figures.

The most striking figure is the TANUKI. It is available in many sizes - from about 3 cm for the bag to 3 m for the front garden, traditionally in brown or modern in color, as a lantern or with a large belly as a water vessel for the goldfish in the garden .

The Tanuki is a Japanese marten dog, although sometimes translated as a badger or raccoon.

The old master shows me proudly a specimen in a showcase, which is over 100 years old and was made by his grandfather.
