LANTERNS and the O-BON

zurück/back In the first half of August there is the time to honor the spirits of one's ancestors –


the O-BON.


During this time the families meet to celebrate together with their deceased ancestors. They offer gifts to them and commemorate in front of the little shrine in the house.

But there are also great festivals in many cities and places.
But there are also great festivals in many cities and places. In order to facilitate the ancestors' journey back to their new homeland - until the next year - lantern festivals are also organized in many cities. The light of the lanterns will help them find this way.

In Nara there is a very special lantern festival - in the Narapark and in the temple complexes and also in the square in front of the administration building of the Prefecture, thousands of lanterns are lit. This is a stunningly beautiful sight.
