Japan consists of 6852 islands. The main islands are Hokkaido in the north, the central and largest island Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in the south. The Japanese central area is composed of some densely populated urban regions. The non-built-up rest of the plains is used mostly for rice fields. But Japan is not just a flat country; it also has a lot of hills and mountains, which are mostly covered with forest. |
